Christmas fun as the festive season begins at The Hardshaw Centre

Tue 26 Nov 2019

Christmas begins officially at The Hardshaw Centre next week, with fun family events and a visit from Santa and his friends.

On Saturday, November 30, the centre will come alive with entertainers who will keep Christmas shoppers in the festive mood, complementing the Christmas light switch on event, which is taking place from noon in Church Square.

Jennifer Burnett, marketing manager of The Hardshaw Centre, which is owned and managed by commercial property and investment company LCP, said: “After last year’s first Christmas launch, we’re hosting another great family day and will be bringing plenty of festive cheer. We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone for this very special time of year.”

Youngsters will be able to meet Santa for free – and grab a photo with him – when he takes time out of his busy schedule to visit on the day. He will be located by the Hardshaw Centre Christmas tree, in Centre Square, by Café Zinho, Bon Marche and TJ Hughes.

The Red Hot Santas and The Elves Christmas Switch On will be roaming the centre, entertaining shoppers, while the Singing Reindeer  - fantastic animatronic characters who sing and move in time to the music - will be on display throughout the festive period. Customers can also press a button to start the reindeer.

As well as entertainment, there will be free facepainting in Centre Square, plus chocolate giveaways throughout the day. And to celebrate the festive launch, customers can also park free of charge at the shopping centre car park on November 30 and every Saturday throughout December.

Children can post their Christmas wishlist to Santa – and get a reply from him if they post it before Thursday, December 19 - in the letterbox, located next to the Christmas tree, which will be located opposite TJ Hughes and Café Zinho. Youngsters can collect their reply from Santa from the Christmas tree a few days later.

Free Halloween fun at the Hardshaw Centre

Tue 22 Oct 2019

The Hardshaw Centre is to be turned into a freaky fun zone for Halloween, with a host of free activities for families – plus a prize for the best fancy dress.

The spooky storytime will see Halloween characters - Wicked Witch, Sneaky Pete the Pirate, Fey the Forest Fairy and Maleficent – telling stories around the shopping centre on Saturday, October 26, between 11am and 1pm.

The story will revolve around the fairies, who have stolen the Enchanted Sword from Sneaky Pete the Pirate, who kept using it for all his own gain and evil deeds. Maleficent, queen of the fairies, teams up with the Wicked Witch to try to resolve the problems in her kingdom.

Each character will tell their side of the story and will also be getting children and adults alike, to dance and take part in other fun activities. Children can also collect different items such as spiders, jewels and flowers, which will go into a cauldron in Centre Square, so they can create a spell that will make everyone happy again.

As well as the storytime, there will also be free facepainting and a free chocolate treat for all participating children.

Jennifer Burnett, marketing manager at the Hardshaw Centre, said: “We love hosting special family events and Halloween is a great excuse to dress up and have fun. With storytime and games happening, there’ll be plenty of things to enjoy here for a couple of hours.”

Fancy dress is positively encouraged – and the best-dressed will win a £30 Hardshaw Centre shopping voucher.

The Wicked Witch with cauldron will be located by One Below and Card Factory, while Sneaky Pete the Pirate will sit at the Church Street entrance. Fey the Forest Fairy will be telling her story in the Centre Square by Café Zinho and Maleficent will be by the Bickerstaffe Street entrance, by Home Bargains.

Summer fun activities continue at the Hardshaw Centre

Fri 23 Aug 2019

Families are being invited to free, fun events at the summer pop-up park at the Hardshaw Centre, next week.

The indoor pop-up park, which has been installed outside TJ Hughes and Cafe Zinho, is a chill-out area, decked out in artificial grass, with deckchairs and a grass sofa.

Next Thursday (August 29 2019), the park will play host to a bug hunt and crafts session, when participants can look for different bugs hiding around the centre, with prizes for completed entries. There’s also the opportunity to create a snail, butterfly and flower out of craft materials, as well as to make a flower headband with real flowers, to take home.

Activities take place between 10am and 2pm.

The following day (Friday, August 30) between 10am and 2pm, youngsters can show off their circus skills at a workshop where they can hula hoop, spin plates and diabalos, as well as juggle balls, and have a go on stilts and pedal goes – special unicycle trainers. There will also be a facepainter and a glitter bar there.

Jennifer Burnett, retail marketing manager at the Hardshaw Centre, said: “We’ve hosted lots of great activities this summer at our fun, pop-up park and many customers have enjoyed just chilling in the deckchairs. As the summer holidays draw to a close, we’re organising more activities for all the family to enjoy. There’s no need to book, just turn up and take part.”
